An international team of scientists has made a rare discovery in Antarctica, finding meteorites from the depths of the Blue Ice area.

These meteorites, one weighing 7.6 kg, could potentially hold answers to the formation of the Earth.

The team, comprising scientists from the Field Museum of Natural History, University of Chicago, and Universite Libre de Bruxelles, was on a reconnaissance mission to find new areas of meteorite accumulation around the Belgian Princess Elisabeth Antarctica Station.

The meteorites will now be transported to Brussels and analyzed for their chemical composition to provide insight into the Earth’s formation.
