The Star Wars universe is expanding, and the forthcoming series “Skeleton Crew” is gearing up to take fans to the New Republic era, following the events of “Return of the Jedi.” The series is set to premiere on Disney+, and the latest update suggests that the show will be helmed by an Oscar-winning director duo.
According to a report by Deadline, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, who recently won seven Academy Awards for their sci-fi comedy film “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” have directed an episode for the upcoming Star Wars series “Skeleton Crew.” The duo completed principal photography before their big win earlier this month.
“Skeleton Crew” stars Jude Law in the lead role, with Jon Watts as the creator. While the plot details of the series remain a closely guarded secret, the team behind “The Mandalorian,” Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni, are serving as executive producers.
Kwan and Scheinert began their career in directing music videos, including the viral hit “Turn Down for What” by DJ Snake and Lil Jon. After earning critical acclaim for their short films, the duo made their feature film debut with the 2016 comedy-drama “Swiss Army Man,” starring Paul Dano, Daniel Radcliffe, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Their success continued with “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” which became the first independent film to gross over $100 million worldwide during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Skeleton Crew” started filming last summer and wrapped recently, and the list of directors involved was unknown until now. The involvement of Kwan and Scheinert has generated excitement among fans, who are eagerly anticipating the new series set in the beloved Star Wars universe.
While there is still much to be revealed about “Skeleton Crew,” the show’s impressive roster of talent and Kwan and Scheinert’s involvement suggest that fans can expect an exciting new addition to the Star Wars canon.
