Maruti Suzuki India announced on Tuesday that it had recorded its highest ever exports, with 2,63,068 units shipped overseas in 2022, a 28% increase from its previous record of 2,05,450 units in 2021.
The top exported models in 2022 were the Dzire, Swift, S-Presso, Baleno, and Brezza. In a statement, Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Director and CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, said that this achievement demonstrates the trust, quality, reliability, performance, and affordability of the company’s products, and aligns with the company’s commitment to the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative.
Maruti Suzuki’s exports in 2022 more than doubled the volume shipped in the pre-COVID year of 2019, which was 1,07,190 units. Exports declined to 85,208 units in 2020 due to the pandemic and supply chain disruptions.
Maruti Suzuki began exporting in 1986 and currently ships its vehicles to around 100 countries, with its main markets being Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
