Telangana High Court’s Vacation Bench Directs Inclusion of BTech Graduates for TGT (Mathematics) Posts

In a significant ruling, the vacation bench of the Telangana High Court has declared that a BTech degree should be deemed equivalent to a BSc (Mathematics) degree for the position of TGT (Mathematics). This decision comes following a recent recruitment notification released by the Telangana State Residential Educational Institutions Recruitment Board.

Justice Pulla Karthik presided over the case, which was initiated by P. Susmita, who challenged the recruitment notification with regard to the hiring of teachers. Notably, the notification, numbered O9/2O23 and dated April 5 and 27, excluded BTech graduates from applying for the TGT (Mathematics) position, which was found to be in violation of the regulations set by the National Council for Teacher Education.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that while BTech candidates were allowed to pursue BEd admissions, they were unjustly restricted from applying for teaching positions, which were only open to candidates holding BSc and BEd degrees.

Furthermore, the counsel highlighted to the court that despite a previous directive from a division bench of the High Court to adhere to the regulations set by the National Council for Teacher Education, several boards were not complying with the order.

Taking into account these arguments, the vacation bench has instructed the authorities to consider the applications of BTech candidates for the recruitment process, thereby ensuring their inclusion in the selection process for TGT (Mathematics) posts.
